1. Registration and profile

How to register, fill in your profile, pass moderation and edit it later.
1.1

Zawji is available two ways: as a Telegram Mini App at t.me/zawjiapp_bot/app, and as a web version in any browser — app.zawji.app. Telegram is not required to sign in: through the web version you can register with an email and password.

Open the app, tap "Register" and go through the step-by-step questionnaire. Once it is filled in, your profile goes to moderation, and as soon as it is approved you will start seeing profiles of the opposite sex and will be able to send likes, in shaa Allah.

1.2

No. To see profiles you must register and fill in a profile of your own — without a completed and approved profile the profiles section is not available. This rule applies to everyone: brothers and sisters alike.

1.3

Nothing at all. Registration and filling in your profile are free for both men and women. There are paid features inside the app (for example, opening a chat after a mutual like), but submitting a profile itself costs nothing.

1.4

Registration is a step-by-step wizard: 11 steps for sisters and 10 for brothers (sisters get an extra "Wali and witnesses" step). Progress is saved automatically — if you close the app halfway, your profile is restored from the same place when you come back.

The required fields are: gender, name (a pseudonym is fine), age (from 18 to 100; under 18 you cannot register, and there is no upper limit), country, nationality, height, weight, number of previous marriages (nikahs), number of children, the "Beliefs, manhaj and scholars" section, and the screening answers. Sisters additionally provide information about their wali and witnesses.

The "About me" section must contain at least 100 characters. Uploading a photo is not required. We still recommend filling in the free-text fields in detail — it noticeably improves your chances.

1.5

Fill in your profile substantively and honestly: describe yourself the way you would to a future spouse, state what kind of wife or husband you are looking for, and fully develop the section on beliefs. Empty or one-word profiles ("normal", "a simple guy") get almost no likes, and for brothers an "about me" that is too short does not pass moderation at all.

A few practical tips: upload a photo (without one it is harder for sisters to decide), pick your city and nationality from the list, and fill in the section about children correctly. A well-written profile and patience are the best path to a result, in shaa Allah.

1.6

No. Honesty and transparency are a priority on our platform, and at the end of registration you testify before Allah that the information you provided is truthful and that you are registering with the intention of nikah. Lying in your profile (about marital status, children, nikahs, using someone else's photos, and so on) is treachery and grounds for a permanent ban on the person. We do not ban in secret: when someone is banned, the grounds are presented to them.

Your real name is not required — a pseudonym is allowed. But everything else must be true: the person you talk to pays for that conversation and is entitled to rely on accurate information.

1.7

You state the number of nikahs, not the stamps in a passport. One marriage and a divorce is 1. Even a nikah that lasted a single day and was never consummated is still a nikah — it must be stated; the circumstances (that the marriage was very short, unconsummated, and so on) you may briefly describe in "About me" or explain to the other person yourself once you are in a chat. Hiding or understating this number is not allowed: your future spouse pays to open the chat and has the right to know the truth before the conversation begins. Providing false information is treachery and grounds for a ban.

If you have had many marriages, do not worry: the field allows up to 20 previous marriages. May Allah reward you for your honesty.

1.8

Yes, height and weight may be stated approximately — accuracy to the centimetre and kilogram is not required, and the app says so itself. State your current, factual values; if your weight changes, feel free to explain it in "About me". You can always edit the data later.

The oath at the end of registration concerns the honesty of your intention and the truthfulness of your information in general, not mathematical precision down to the gram.

1.9

Nationality is required — those are our rules. "Mixed", "Muslim" and the like are not acceptable in that field: your nationality is your father's nationality. If your origin is mixed, state your father's nationality and describe the nuances in "About me" if you wish. If you do not know your father's nationality, you may write "I don't know".

If your exact nationality is not on the list, choose the closest one and add the precise one in "About me", or write to support asking us to add it. People of many different nationalities use the app, including Arabic speakers — chats have a built-in translator.

1.10

No. Putting any contact details in your profile — phone number, @username, links, email, Instagram and other social networks — is forbidden. The app will not save such a profile and will send it back for revision (the notification may state the reason as "AI: About me: contacts"); you need to remove the contacts and resubmit the profile for moderation. The rule applies even if something slipped through unnoticed before.

The reason for the ban is that before nikah you must not move into private correspondence or seclusion. There is a lawful way to exchange contacts — once the chat is open, by passing on the number of a mahram or wali (details are in the section on wali and mahram).

1.11

This is screening — a set of questions (daily prayer, alcohol, drugs, extramarital relations, transmissible diseases; for sisters also hijab; for brothers who are or have been married, questions about providing for the family and how they treat it). We are very careful about who we admit and try to protect our users, sisters especially, from unreliable people.

The screening answers are visible only to moderators. They are cut out of the profile other users see, and you yourself do not see your own answers (except the one about prayer) — which is why those fields are absent when you edit your profile. An honest "yes" to an uncomfortable question does not by itself block your registration: it simply becomes an internal note for moderation. If you made a mistake in the screening, write to support and we will fix it.

1.12

The first pass is done by AI (usually quickly), then a human moderator reviews the profile. As a rule, approval arrives within anywhere from a few minutes to a day; in busy periods the review can take 2–3 days. Women's profiles sometimes take longer, because they are reviewed by female moderators. The better your profile is filled in, the faster moderation goes.

While your profile is in moderation it is hidden from other users — even those who showed interest earlier cannot see you. You can already send likes, though: as soon as your profile is approved, your likes reach their recipients. Once approved, you will get a "Your profile has passed moderation" notification.

1.13

The administration reserves the right to reject a profile. The most common reasons: a description that is too sparse or empty (an "about me" shorter than 100 characters is rejected automatically); the admission conditions are not met (for example, prayer is not performed); contact details are present; the uploaded photo does not meet the rules; or the profile raised a suspicion of being a duplicate.

If it is unclear what exactly to fix, write to our support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) with the ID from your profile, and a moderator will explain. After making the changes, resubmit your profile for moderation.

1.14

You can edit your profile at any time, free of charge: go to your profile → "Edit profile", change the fields you need and save. Changing free-text fields (city, "about me", beliefs and so on) sends the profile back for a short re-moderation; toggles and numeric fields are saved immediately.

Your real name is not required — a pseudonym is allowed. The only paid change is changing your name (0.5 connect, to prevent abuse); you make it yourself in your profile. You cannot save an "about me" shorter than 100 characters and cannot clear it completely, and the "beliefs" and "nationality" fields may not be left empty.

1.15

Creating a second account is not allowed. A duplicate leads to a ban of both profiles and a ban on the person; you tick a checkbox about this during registration. Creating a second profile to get another free connect is considered a serious violation.

But if you simply lost access to your Telegram or email (or accidentally ended up with two accounts by entering both from the bot and from the site) — do not register again. Write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct): we will move your existing profile with all its correspondence to the right account manually, once you confirm that it is yours (by giving your profile ID, name, age and other details). After the transfer, close the app completely and open it again — you will land straight on your own profile. If, however, a moderator banned you for a violation, the ban applies to the person, and circumventing it with a new account is forbidden.

1.16

Yes, if you are the wali or are searching for a close relative you are responsible for: a father or mother for a daughter, a brother for a sister, a wife looking for a second wife for her husband. You may not register on behalf of a stranger.

Choose the gender of the person you are searching for and fill in the profile from their perspective, and in "About me" describe the situation and state that you are the one managing the profile (for example, that you are the wali, or a sister looking for a wife for her brother). If there are several children, each needs a separate profile (it is convenient to create a separate email at app.zawji.app for each one).

1.17

Yes, the app is open both to those with no nikah and to brothers seeking a second, third or fourth nikah. Register as usual. When filling in the profile, state your marital status and number of nikahs honestly — when a sister makes her decision, she must see what she is agreeing to. There is a filter for openness to a polygamous nikah, so you can find exactly those who are open to it.

1.18

During registration there is a separate consent for publishing your profile in our channel @zawjiapp. It is not mandatory and does not mean that every profile ends up in the channel — we publish selectively. The main search and all communication always happen inside the app, not in the channel.

1.19

Yes, of course. There is no upper age limit — you can register and look for a spouse at any age (registration is available from 18, and there is no upper bound). We will be glad to have you, and in shaa Allah a suitable person will be found at any age.

2. Moderation

How we review profiles, photos and correspondence, how long it takes, and what to do if a decision does not go your way.
2.1

Both, but the final word always belongs to people. AI helps with the first pass — it filters out obvious violations — but every profile and every chat is looked at by living moderators. This is precisely our system of witnesses, and it cannot be replaced by bots. Women's photographs are reviewed only by a female moderator.

Moderators see the correspondence in full, including deleted messages, and attempts to get around the rules — for example, "splitting" a phone number across several messages — are tracked as well. All of this is strictly confidential and is used only for your safety and to uphold the rules.

2.2

There is no fixed deadline: right after you submit it, the profile goes for review rather than being published instantly. As a rule this takes from a few minutes to a day or two, sometimes longer if the moderators are busy. You will definitely receive a notification about the result, and to speed things up — fill in the profile fields well and in detail.

Re-moderation is triggered every time you edit your profile or upload a new photo to an already approved profile — this is normal. While the review is under way your profile is hidden from others, while those who already have a connection with you (a like, a mutual, a favourite) see your profile with an "in moderation" badge.

2.3

The reason for rejection is shown in the app and sent to you as a notification. Common reasons: too little information about yourself (an "about me" shorter than 100 characters does not pass), contacts or spam in the free text, vaguely stated beliefs, not meeting the conditions of participation, a problem with the photo, or a suspicion of a second account.

To clear the rejection, edit your profile according to the stated reason and submit it again — the status will change to re-moderation and the previous rejection mark will be cleared. Please note: the reason for a duplicate suspicion is deliberately not disclosed, so that it cannot be circumvented. The administration reserves the right to reject a profile for breaking the rules.

2.4

Yes. Performing the five daily prayers and wearing the Shariah hijab are mandatory conditions of participation, based on the fatwa of our shaykhs. Profiles of those who do not observe these conditions are not approved — this applies to brothers and sisters alike. We make an exception on hijab only for sisters who have recently accepted Islam or have not covered yet but sincerely intend to: the profile can be approved if this is stated honestly in "About me", but a photo without covering is still not acceptable. Prayer, however, is a condition without exceptions. We sincerely wish you good and will be glad to see you once you begin observing this, in shaa Allah.

2.5

The first pass on photos is done by AI, and it sometimes makes mistakes — it may take a shoulder for exposed awrah or a face for a "torso". If a photo fails because of quality or awrah, an "Submit anyway" / "Upload anyway" button appears at upload — press it and the photo will go not to auto-rejection but to a manual review by a moderator. This is treated as an appeal to a human, not as a violation.

You can upload photos in the same place as the first time — in your profile. Note the limit: no more than 3 uploads per 5 minutes; if you exceed it, the photo goes to manual moderation in any case. If the awrah really is exposed (loose hair, for example), a photo meeting the Shariah requirements will be needed.

2.6

Yes. If you opened a photo and did not manage to make a decision (a phone call distracted you, say), inaction counts as a rejection — that is how the mechanic is built, so that people do not stall at the exchange stage. But the app has an "Appeal" button: you state a reason (mandatory, up to 500 characters) and a moderator reviews the request manually. If the appeal is granted, access to the photo is restored — you will be able to look at it again and make a decision, and you will receive a notification.

Limits: only one request can be pending at a time, and for any one match a second chance is given only once — after an appeal has been used, you cannot file another. So once you open a photo, try to decide right away.

2.7

Most likely not. From time to time we send profiles with empty or too weak descriptions back for revision en masse, so that people fill them in properly — while being revised, such profiles are hidden and "disappear" from lists. Once their owners have completed them and passed re-moderation, the profiles come back.

If a profile disappeared for good, the person may have deleted their account. If you feel something is displaying incorrectly, write to support.

2.8

The rules in the app are the same for everyone — we do not make individual exceptions (on age, nationality, meeting the conditions and so on). This applies to men and women alike. We do not force anyone to register: if our conditions do not suit you, you are free not to use the app. This single standard is part of how we protect all our users.

3. Photos and photo exchange

How the photo exchange works, who sees your photo and when, and how it is protected.
3.1

No, it is not required. In the general feed all profiles are shown without photos — your photo is revealed only at the photo-exchange stage and only to someone you have a mutual like with. If you wish, you can turn on "profile without a photo" mode: the exchange stage is then skipped and the profile is marked with a corresponding badge.

Keep two things in mind: until you upload your own photo you will not be able to view other people's; and profiles without photos have lower priority in the feed — many people find it hard to decide without seeing someone's appearance, so such profiles are skipped more often. We do recommend uploading a photo — it brings noticeably more responses. But the choice is yours.

3.2

The photo exchange goes strictly in turn, and your photo is never shown to anyone automatically. After a mutual like, the sister is the first to see the brother's photo. If she approves his photo (taps "like"), only then does the brother see hers. If both approved each other's photos, the option to start a chat opens. Until that moment the sister's photo is physically unavailable to the brother: the system will not show it until she has opened access herself. So a brother cannot see a sister's photo without her consent.

This order was chosen deliberately — the right of the first look stays with the sister. In shaa Allah, this protects sisters and makes the process fair for both sides.

3.3

Photos at the exchange stage are viewed not in the profile but on the "Interests" → "Mutual" tab. Open it, find the person you need and tap the camera icon — the photo will open. If "Mutual" is empty or the row does not open, re-enter the app.

Important: photos do not open inside the Telegram bot itself — the bot only sends a notification, and you need to view them in the app. Another common reason the icon does not appear: the person has meanwhile entered a conversation with someone else. While a sister is in an active chat, her photo chain is temporarily unavailable to everyone else — this is expected, not a fault. If nothing helps, write to support and attach a screenshot of the notification and of the "Mutual" tab.

3.4

One photo is shown at the exchange stage before the chat opens. Full-length photos, including ones taken from a distance, are allowed. The main thing is that the photo be genuine (not an AI-generated image) and not break the rules. If a photo looks fake or suspicious to you, you can and should report it right in the app.

3.5

This is about the photo, not the profile. Once you have opened a photo, you have 10 minutes to tap "like" or "dislike". If no decision is made in that time, the system automatically counts it as a "dislike" — which is why the status "you rejected the photo" appears. The timer starts on the first opening and does not reset if you open the photo again.

If the rejection happened by mistake (you were distracted, the app was minimised), tap "Appeal" for another viewing — if it is granted you will be able to look at the photo once more.

3.6

At the exchange stage viewing is one-time only: as soon as you have tapped "like" or "dislike", the photo is sealed and cannot be opened again from the profile. There are two ways to see it again: tap "Appeal" for a repeat viewing (if granted, you will get a notification that you may take another look), or start the chat and ask for a photo directly in the conversation — there the other person can send it themselves.

3.7

At the exchange stage a photo is protected in several ways at once: it is shown only to the person you allowed yourself; a watermark with the name and ID of the viewer is applied over the image (tiled across the whole photo); one-time viewing with a timer applies (10 minutes to decide); and every view is logged — who looked at whose photo and when, which moderators can see. Screenshots are forbidden by our rules.

Let us be honest: it is technically impossible to fully protect against someone photographing the screen with another phone — in any app. Just as someone could photograph you in the street. So if this matters to you in principle, you have every right not to post a photo and to turn on "profile without a photo" mode.

3.8

No. Both uploading your own photo and viewing the other person's photo at the exchange stage are free. Payment (one connect) is required only to open the chat, once both sides have approved each other's photos.

3.9

If one side has "profile without a photo" mode on, the photo-exchange stage is skipped: after mutual interest you can go straight to paying a connect and starting the chat. Inside the chat you may ask for a photo — the other person will send it if they want to.

A separate case: there was no photo at the moment of the mutual like, and the person added one later. You cannot go back to the exchange stage — it is passed only once, so viewing the photo before the chat is not possible in that situation. Start the chat and ask for a photo in the conversation. A reminder about the safety net: if the chat is closed within the permitted number of first messages, the connect is returned automatically, so the risk is minimal.

3.10

The profile photo can only be viewed at the exchange stage, before the chat; inside the conversation itself the profile photo is not shown to the other person. To show yourself or a new photo in the chat, simply send it as a message — and in exactly the same way you can ask the other person for a photo, and they will send it themselves. Exchanging photos inside the chat is allowed.

A one-time photo in the chat works differently from the exchange stage: no timer or watermark is applied to it, it is shown once and disappears when the recipient closes the view, after which it is no longer served. Bear that in mind when deciding what to send.

3.11

Delete the message containing the photo — after that the other person will not see it. If the photo is in your profile, you can delete or replace it at any time in the profile editing section.

3.12

Sisters' photos are reviewed only by female moderators. Male moderators cannot see sisters' photos — they are hidden from them deliberately, and nothing extra needs to be configured. In the same way, brothers' photos go for review only to male moderators. Outside moderation, a photo at the exchange stage is seen only by the one person you opened access to.

3.13

Yes, a photo in niqab or with a covered face — as well as no photo at all ("profile without a photo" mode) — is permitted by the rules. We cannot require a sister to show an uncovered face. If such a photo does not suit you, you are free simply to decline and continue your search. The first pass on photos is done by AI, and we keep tuning it.

3.14

The photo itself without hijab we do not accept — neither in the profile nor in the chat: this applies to all sisters. But we can approve the profile itself if you are new to Islam or do not cover yet but have a sincere intention to. In that case be sure to state it honestly in "About me", and instead of an uncovered photo post one in hijab or niqab, or turn on "profile without a photo" mode.

The hijab requirement is based on the fatwa of our shaykhs and is the same for everyone. We ask for honesty and transparency: an uncovered photo is not acceptable at any stage — not in the profile, not in the correspondence.

4. Matching, likes and chat

The path from profile to chat: how to send likes, start a conversation, talk in the presence of witnesses, and what happens to the chat afterwards.
4.1

There are no direct private messages in Zawji — communication opens step by step, so that everything proceeds decently and in the presence of witnesses. The path is: 1) first you see only profiles (beliefs, goals, information about the person) — without photos; 2) you send a like ❤️, and if the person likes you back, a "mutual interest" arises; 3) after that the sister is first to view the brother's photo (hers is not yet shown to him); 4) the sister decides: if she likes it, she sends a second like; if not, she skips (the brother is not informed of the refusal); 5) only after her consent does the brother see her photo; 6) if the liking is mutual both on the profile and on the photo — the chat can be opened for one connect.

All of this happens on the "Mutual" tab. Communication always takes place in the presence of witnesses (moderators, and optionally the wali). Writing to someone "unilaterally", without mutual interest, is not possible.

4.2

Yes. The "Filters" icon is in the header of the "Profiles" section. You can narrow the results by country and city, nationality, language, age, height and weight, willingness to relocate, and also by profile parameters (with a photo / no children, and so on). New criteria apply from the next swipe. The filters themselves are free.

Some filters depend on gender: "accepts polygamy" and "never been married" are available to men, "not married" to women, and the "not in a conversation right now" filter (hide busy sisters) only to men. Separately, in the "Likes" section you can limit who may send you likes.

4.3

It is a paid notification feature: you save your search criteria, and the app itself sends you a message when a new matching profile appears or when a matching sister becomes free from a chat — even if you have not liked her yet. It costs 2 connects for 30 days (free for unlimited holders).

To avoid flooding you with notifications, there are limits: no more than 5 notifications per day, and we remind you about the same person no more than once every 60 days.

4.4

10 likes per day are available for free. The counter resets at 00:00 UTC (03:00 Moscow time). Likes withdrawn during the day also count towards the limit — withdrawing does not give back a free attempt (this is protection against gaming the system).

If the daily limit is used up, you can buy an extra pack of 10 likes for 0.3 connect; there can be several such purchases in a day. Purchased likes are valid only within the current day. Unlimited holders have no limit at all.

4.5

Yes. Changing your decision on a specific profile (skip → like) costs 0.2 connect; if that person has already liked you, a mutual like arises immediately. A repeat like after a previously withdrawn one also costs 0.2 connect and does not consume your free daily limit.

If you have gone through the whole feed and want to bring all the skipped profiles back at once, there is a separate paid "Reset skipped" feature — it returns to the feed all profiles you disliked (liked ones do not come back). For unlimited holders, changing a decision and resetting skips are free.

4.6

There is no separate "seen" or "declined" status at the like stage: if the person did not like you back, you will not see it — a refusal at the profile stage is not shown. You can learn their reaction only when they send you a like back. A refusal at the photo stage (after mutual interest), however, you will see.

If you get few responses, the profile is usually to blame: fill it in thoroughly and add a photo — without one, sisters rarely send likes. Be patient: sisters receive a great many likes, and there are fewer sisters overall than brothers.

4.7

There are usually two reasons — the profile, and patience.

First, improve your profile: fill in "About me" and the beliefs section in detail, add a photo (without one sisters rarely send likes), and state your city and nationality correctly. Empty and weak profiles get almost no likes.

Second, check that you are actually receiving notifications (profile → notification settings) — otherwise you may simply not be noticing the likes coming back.

And be patient: there are many people in the app, but sisters receive a great many likes and there are fewer sisters than brothers, so a reply does not always come quickly. There is no separate "seen" status at the profile stage — you will see a reaction only when someone likes you back.

4.8

It is important here to understand how the feed works. Your profile is shown to all suitable users of the opposite sex (according to their filters) who have not yet reacted to you — regardless of whether you liked them or not.

Your refusal (dislike) is a one-way action: it removes the person from your feed, but it does not remove you from theirs. So a brother you declined at the profile stage may still see your profile in his feed (until he reacts to you himself) and send you a like. From your feed, everyone you have already liked or skipped disappears.

To hide yourself from a specific person entirely, add them to your blacklist — blocking works both ways, and you stop seeing each other. If you closed a chat with someone, you really will not see each other in the feed any more — but not because the chat was closed: it is because you previously had a mutual like (you both liked each other), and the feed no longer shows people you have liked.

Separately: the profiles of those who declined you do not disappear from your lists automatically — you can hide lingering mutuals and unwanted cards manually.

4.9

Go to the "Mutual" tab — the button to start the chat appears on the card there. If both sides have photos, the photo exchange happens first; once the liking on photos is mutual, one final step remains — one of the sides opens the chat by spending a connect.

The button appears only when all stages have been passed (mutual like + photo exchange) and the sister is not currently in another chat. If there is no button or it does not work, it almost always means the sister is already in a conversation with someone else (sisters may have only one active chat).

4.10

Either side can open the chat, but our recommendation is to leave the initiative to the man — as a rule the brother spends the connect. A woman does not have to pay, but if you (a sister) do not want to wait, you may open the chat yourself.

Opening a chat costs 1 connect and is charged to whoever initiated it. For unlimited subscription holders, the chat opens free. The charge is irreversible: when you tap, a confirmation appears — "1 connect will be charged. Once the chat starts, the action cannot be undone." No confirmation from the other side is required — as soon as one participant has paid, the chat is open for both. Opening the chat again with the same pair does not create a duplicate and does not charge again — the system returns the existing chat.

4.11

While a sister is in a chat, her profile is "busy", and nobody can write to her in parallel — this rules out situations where several brothers "take apart" one sister at once and she ends up closing all the chats. Men have no such restriction: a brother may run as many chats simultaneously as he likes, and mutual likes keep coming to him.

The asymmetry is explained like this: men pay for the chat and take it more seriously; there are considerably more brothers in the app than sisters; and a man is permitted by Shariah to propose to several women at once. Before the nikah is concluded, the sides have no mutual obligations — as long as there are no concrete agreements, you are free to consider other candidates, and all the more so if a person is not responding.

4.12

It means the sister is already in a chat with another brother. Sisters may have only one active chat at a time, so until her current conversation ends you cannot start a chat with her, view her photo or otherwise interact. It is not a refusal on her part and not an app error — someone simply managed to open the chat first. If you liked each other, "the door is open" and either of you may walk through it; whoever opened the chat first, opened it.

We understand that missing the moment is frustrating, but the "one sister — one chat" rule protects sisters from being "taken apart" simultaneously. As soon as the sister finishes her conversation, you will get a notification that you can start talking to her again, and your likes will reach her. To avoid missing the moment: open the app more often; keep a connect on your balance in advance (so you do not lose seconds to payment); and you can take out a paid filter subscription — it will notify you the moment she becomes free, even if you have not liked her yet.

4.13

Every conversation has witnesses — real people, not bots (otherwise it would not be a Shariah witnessing). A male moderator and a female moderator are always present, as well as an AI moderator that checks every message for adab and for attempts to get around the rules. To them are added the witnesses listed in the sister's profile and her wali, if he is connected. Yes, the correspondence is read — that is what witnesses are for.

Male moderators, however, do not see sisters' photos — those photos are hidden from them.

4.14

In the chat it is categorically forbidden to share personal contacts and to try to move the conversation into private messages or another messenger — that is seclusion (khalwa), which we do not permit. The automation blocks: phone numbers, emails, @usernames, any links, messenger and social-network domains, as well as obfuscation ("at", "dot", a number spelled out digit by digit across lines). Sending your own contact leads to your account being banned.

Important nuances: a direct intention ("write to me on Telegram") without an actual contact gives a warning, not a ban; a bank card number blocks the message itself but does not lead to a ban; and if digits assembled from parts match your own registered number, that is already an automatic ban. Flirting and coquetry are also unacceptable in the correspondence: the conversation is conducted in a businesslike way, with the intention of nikah and with adab — you are not alone, there are witnesses in the chat. Insults, fraud and improper messages are passed to a human moderator for review. You can pass on a wali's or mahram's contact lawfully — through the special form (three dots in the chat), but not as text.

4.15

No. Asking the other person for money, bank details, "help", transfers and any financial services is forbidden — it has nothing to do with nikah and often turns out to be fraud. Bank card numbers are blocked automatically in the chat, and attempts to extract money are passed to a moderator and lead to a ban.

If someone asks you for money or sends you bank details — do not transfer anything and report the user (the "three dots" ⋮ menu → report). We will look into it.

4.16

Yes, talk in your native language — the chat has a built-in automatic translator, and your messages are translated for the other person while theirs are translated for you. You do not need to know Russian or English for this, and a language barrier is no reason to skip a profile you like.

If the translation does not work somewhere, write to support with a description and a screenshot if possible — we will sort it out.

4.17

Two ticks mean the other person has seen your message. One tick means the message has not been read yet.

Do not worry too much about the ticks: one tick for days on end may simply mean the person has not been in the app for a while, not that they refused.

Finding out when the other person was last online is not possible — neither in the app nor through support. This is confidential information about another user, and we do not disclose it (just as we do not disclose yours to others). There is deliberately no "online", "last seen" or similar status in Zawji.

4.18

You can edit your own text message within 15 minutes of sending it (text only, and only by its author). An edited message goes through moderation again — a contact in the edit will have the same consequences as in an ordinary message. A message can be deleted with no time limit: it is hidden from the other person, but the content is retained for moderator review. The maximum message length is 2000 characters.

Reactions are limited to three emoji: 👍, ✅ and ❤️. Screenshots of the correspondence are forbidden in the app; if you need to show the chat to someone (your wali, for example), contact support.

4.19

There is no hard deadline for starting a chat. The conversation itself is not limited in duration either, but we strongly recommend not dragging it out: that is not from the practice of Islam. Once you have learnt everything you need, make istikhara, and if everything suits you, aim for nikah as soon as possible.

A practical tip: use the first messages to discuss everything essential straight away (aqidah, relocation, the attitude to polygamy, an additional photo if needed), and do not be afraid to request the wali's or mahram's contact early through the form. Remember that if there is silence, the chat closes after about 3 days.

4.20

Yes. If there are no new messages in the chat: after 24 hours a first reminder arrives, after 48 hours a second one, and after roughly 3 days of silence the chat closes automatically. The countdown runs from the last real message (text or photo). This is done so as not to "hold" a busy sister if the conversation has in fact stopped.

To keep the chat from closing, simply keep the conversation going — write at least something every couple of days. If the chat does close, it can be reopened.

4.21

If the other person is silent, there can be many reasons — connectivity, being busy, thinking it over — and you cannot know for sure, so do not jump to conclusions. We do not disclose the time of their last visit: that is confidential data about another user. Your options: wait (people often come back) or close the chat. As long as there are no agreements, you are free to consider other candidates in parallel.

If the other person closed the chat without explanation, support does not know the reason and cannot know it: it is that person's private decision and we are not answerable for it. We ask everyone — sisters especially — to state the real reason when closing a chat (there is a field in the app for this), but we cannot compel anyone. If a person has made up their mind, you will not get the correspondence back against their will. Do not despair — in shaa Allah, a suitable person will be found.

4.22

Yes, each chat can be reopened exactly once, for one connect (free for unlimited holders). Either side can reopen it — not necessarily the one who closed it. The cost does not depend on the outcome: even if the other person closes the chat again, the connect for the reopening is not returned. Reopening is not possible if the sister is currently in another chat — you have to wait until she is free.

To be honest: we do not recommend using this feature. If a person closed the chat, the decision has usually been made, and there is no point imposing yourself. Reopening for the sake of arguments or persuasion can lead to a ban.

4.23

Unfortunately, no: we do not know the reason and cannot find it out. Closing a chat is a person's private decision; they are not obliged to explain it either to the other side or to us, and we will not question users on someone else's behalf. If a reason was given when closing, you will see it yourself in the app; if the field was left empty, there will be no explanation.

Please do not take it as an offence. The reasons vary widely and most often have nothing to do with you: the person changed their mind, consulted their wali, chose another candidate, or decided to take a break altogether. Before nikah neither side is bound by obligations — that is the whole point of the getting-to-know stage. In shaa Allah, Allah will give what is better.

4.24

Passing messages through moderators is not provided for. We are not couriers and not intermediaries in your conversation: anything you want to say to the other person is written to them directly in the chat inside the app. Requests such as "ask her", "tell him I didn't mean to" and the like we do not carry out — this applies to all users equally.

If the chat is already closed and you still need to say something important, you can reopen the chat (once, for a connect) — but remember that reopening for the sake of persuasion or settling scores can in itself lead to a ban. Support deals with the workings of the app: payments, bans, technical faults and mahram verification.

4.25

No. Sisters do not see how many chats you have or whether you are talking to anyone in parallel — this information is not shown in the app. The "in a conversation with someone" mark exists only for sisters, because a sister may have only one active chat; brothers have no such restriction, and no busy status appears on a man's profile.

That said, we call for honesty: if a sister asks you directly about it, answer truthfully. Shariah does not require secrecy of you — a man is permitted to propose to several women at once — but deception is not acceptable.

4.26

While your chat is open, nobody can interact with the sister. Another brother cannot start a chat with her and cannot view her photo — the photo chain is frozen for everyone for that period. He is not told that she is in a conversation, either: he sees a neutral "temporarily unavailable" with no explanation of the reason. Until your conversation ends, she is talking to you.

Notifications do not reach her during that time either. Other people's likes, mutuals and photos pile up silently: no push, no Telegram message, no in-app alert. All of it arrives as a single digest only after your chat has ended. The one thing that remains technically possible for others is to send her a like "into the silence": it goes into the queue and will not distract her from talking to you.

As for the feed. By default a sister's profile stays visible to other brothers, but with an "in a conversation" badge and noticeably lower in the results. She does, however, have a "Hide my profile" toggle — it appears on the screen she sees instead of the feed while the chat is running. If she turns it on, she disappears from the profile list altogether. An important nuance: the toggle applies only to the current conversation and resets back to "visible" with every new chat, so it has to be turned on again each time. On his side, a brother can likewise remove busy sisters from his own feed with the "Not in a conversation now" filter.

5. Connects and payment

Everything about Zawji's internal currency: prices, payment, refunds of connects and free ways to get them.
5.1

A connect is Zawji's internal currency. One connect = one conversation (opening a chat) with a person you have a mutual like with; the chat is not limited in time, and this is not a subscription. Connects are also spent on some additional actions inside the app.

Connects are sold in packs, and the bigger the pack the cheaper a single connect works out. The approximate price of one connect is 690 ₽, or 500 Telegram Stars, or 9 dollars. The exact current prices are always visible in the app in the "Connects" section (the diamond icon).

5.2

No. Connects have no expiry date and do not burn — they stay on your balance until you spend them. Connects are fractional, so non-integer values may appear on your balance (0.9, for example).

5.3

Current packs: 1 connect — 690 ₽ / 500 ⭐ / $9; 2 — 1290 ₽ / 880 ⭐ / $17; 3 — 1890 ₽ / 1260 ⭐ / $24; 5 — 2990 ₽ / 1890 ⭐ / $39; 10 — 4490 ₽ / 3150 ⭐ / $59. The bigger the pack, the lower the price per connect.

Unlimited costs 5990 ₽ / 3790 ⭐ / $79 and lasts exactly 30 days (it is not perpetual). Prices may change — the final amounts are always shown in the app in the "Connects" section.

5.4

Unlimited opens all of the app's paid features without restriction for 30 days: as many chats as you like, subscription to new profiles by filters, boosting your own profile and other features. It costs 5990 ₽ (3790 ⭐).

Unlimited is designed for exactly one month and is not made perpetual — if you need longer, you extend it with another purchase. If you buy it while an unlimited period is already running, the term is not overwritten but added to the remainder. Unlimited is not available in the Google Play version.

5.5

Zawji is a premium platform for building a halal marriage, not a free dating site. Payment is taken only after you have matched each other on the profile (and with sisters, on the photo as well), so the chance of a serious conversation is high. The funds go towards advertising, attracting new sisters and the work of the team: moderators check profiles and mahrams and watch over the chats.

And here is the main thing the connect pays for: by opening a chat you are effectively buying the sister's attention in full. While your conversation is going on, her profile is reserved for you — nobody else can start a chat with her or view her photo, and depending on the mode other brothers either do not see her in the feed at all or cannot reach her. That is, a connect is not "access to a correspondence" but an exclusive right to talk to a particular person with no competitors. That is exactly why sisters may have only one active chat, and exactly why a chat cannot cost a symbolic amount.

We do not consider the price high — one connect is comparable to a couple of cups of coffee, and the result may be far more important. There is also a free way to get a connect (subscribing to the channel), and sisters as a rule do not need to pay at all.

5.6

Registration and filling in your profile are completely free, but no welcome connects are credited on registration — a new account starts with a zero balance.

There is one working free method: subscribing to our Telegram channel @zawjiapp — that credits +1 connect, once. After subscribing, go to the "Connects" section and tap "Check subscription". Important: the check button is available only in the Telegram Mini App (when you sign in through Telegram); the browser version does not have it. Previous promotions (for students of Islamic universities in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, for example) have ended.

5.7

A promo code gives bonus connects and applies once per account — you can enter it at the final step of registration or in the "Connects" section. A promo code cannot be applied a second time on the same account.

There are no active public promo codes at the moment. If you have a valid code, enter it in the app; if it does not work, check with support.

5.8

Yes. The connect is returned to the initiator automatically if the chat is closed while the initiator has sent 10 messages or fewer and the mahram's number has not yet been passed in the chat. The refund comes by itself — nothing extra needs to be done, and it does not matter who closed the chat.

A tip: ask everything important (aqidah, willingness to relocate, attitude to polygamy, additional photos) in those first messages — that way you decide whether the person suits you without losing a connect. If the initiator sent more than 10 messages or the mahram's number has already been passed, the service counts as rendered and the connect is not returned.

Separately on "I sent 11 messages and missed the refund by literally one". We understand this is frustrating, but the threshold of 10 messages is not an approximate guideline — it is an exact condition of the refund, identical for every user. We do not make exceptions "as a one-off gesture": once a rule starts being bent on request, it stops being a rule. And keeping track is easy — there is a counter right in the chat: the "three dots" (⋮) menu at the top → "Connect refund". It shows how many messages you have already sent and whether the connect will come back if you close the chat right now. Look in there before you send the eleventh message.

5.9

We do not make cash refunds — a refund is possible only in the form of connects credited to your balance: under the short-chat refund rule (10 messages or fewer, before the mahram's number is passed) or if the other person was banned by the administration. By making a purchase you agree to these rules.

This applies to other purchases too: if you, say, accidentally bought an extra pack of likes or another service and changed your mind about using it, you cannot get money or connects back for it. In-app purchases (likes, boost, name change, chat reopening and so on) are non-refundable. That said, every paid action is accompanied by an on-screen warning before the charge, so accidental charges without your confirmation do not happen.

5.10

If the user was banned by the administration, the connect is returned. If the person deleted or temporarily froze their profile themselves, that is outside our control and there is no separate refund for it — this is stated in the rules you agreed to at registration.

In practice, if there were few messages in the chat (within the refund rule), you can simply close the chat — and the connect will come back automatically. Sisters often freeze their profile for no reason and restore it later, so it sometimes makes sense to wait a little.

A frequent question: "she closed the chat through no fault of mine — give me my connect back." The same refund rule applies here: if the initiator sent 10 messages or fewer and the mahram's number has not yet been passed, the connect comes back automatically — regardless of who closed the chat. But if there were more than 10 messages, or the mahram's contact has already been passed, the service (the conversation itself) counts as fully rendered and the connect is not returned — no matter on whose initiative the chat was closed.

5.11

The main payment method is a bank card in the web version at app.zawji.app (payment goes through the lava.top service). If you are paying from Telegram and the payment window does not open or the card is declined, open the app in an ordinary browser (app.zawji.app) and pay by card there — Telegram's built-in browser has limitations.

If paying by card does not work, try the other methods in turn: Tribute, Telegram Stars (they work right inside the Telegram Mini App if you signed in through Telegram — the universal option), a bank transfer, or payment in cryptocurrency. Some of these methods are set up through support.

If none of the methods works, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp), attach a screenshot or video of the error and state your country. We will help you find a payment method that works.

5.12

Sometimes the payment service delays confirmation — usually everything arrives within a few minutes. If after 10–15 minutes the connects (or unlimited) still have not appeared, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp), attach the receipt (a screenshot of the payment) and state your ID in the app — we will check the payment and credit the connects or enable unlimited manually.

You can find your ID in the "Profile" section: next to your photo there is an "ID" label and a number. Your money will not be lost: if the payment did not reach us, the funds will be returned to you on the bank's side. After unlimited is activated you will see the date until which it is valid.

5.13

Yes, Telegram Stars are the most universal payment method, about 500 Stars per 1 connect. But paying with Stars is available only when you sign in through Telegram (inside the Telegram Mini App): in the browser version the Stars tab is inactive. If you did not register through Telegram, link a Telegram account in order to pay with Stars.

5.14

From abroad the easiest way is to pay in dollars. The jurisdiction of our payments is Russia, so local currencies are not connected directly yet, but in the web version (app.zawji.app) you can pay by card in dollars, and inside Telegram — with Stars. When paying, choose the dollar and convert the amount into your currency at the Google rate.

If you cannot pay on your own, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp) stating your country and we will suggest an available method. Unfortunately, some cards (Uzbek Uzcard/Humo, for example) require a foreign-currency card — an ordinary local card may be declined.

5.15

In the Android app all connect purchases go through Google Play. The packs are the same (1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 connects), and the purchase is confirmed automatically. Please note: unlimited is not available in the Google Play version — you can buy it in the web version or the Telegram Mini App.

5.16

Yes, a third party can pay (your brother from his own card, for example). To make sure the connects land on your account, after paying send the receipt to support (t.me/zawjiapp) and state your ID in the app — we will credit the connects to the right account.

5.17

Yes, payment goes through official payment services: the main one for card payment in the web version is lava.top, plus Tribute (a Telegram partner) and Telegram Stars. The money goes into running the service — advertising and attracting new sisters, the work of the moderators and witnesses, and development. If you prefer privacy, Telegram Stars is the simplest and most anonymous option. If you have any doubts about payment, you can write to support (t.me/zawjiapp).

5.18

The history of all operations is available right in the app in the "Connects" section — it shows every credit and charge (opening a chat, reopening, buying likes, the subscription reward, top-ups and so on). If you are not sure where a connect went, look at the operations history.

5.19

Your first decision — a like or a dislike — is always free. Only changing a decision you have already made is paid: for example, if you liked someone and then decided to withdraw the like. Such an action is accompanied by an on-screen warning before the charge — there are no automatic charges without your confirmation.

The free daily limit is 10 likes. Beyond it you can buy an extra pack of 10 likes for 0.3 connect (also with an on-screen warning; there is no refund for a pack already bought). Unlimited holders do not need this — they have no limit on likes.

5.20

The "Reset skipped" feature returns to your feed the profiles you previously skipped (declined), and costs 0.6 connect. It does not bring back profiles you liked — only skipped ones. If there is nothing to reset, no connect is charged.

5.21

A boost raises your profile in the feed — it is shown among the first, your like appears higher for the other person, and the profile gets a highlighting frame. Boost is included in unlimited.

Any payment in the app gently raises a profile's position in the feed, but the effect of a specially purchased boost is noticeably stronger. To get more responses, besides a boost it is worth filling in your profile well, adding a good photo and stating your city and nationality correctly.

5.22

No. Connects are tied to your account, and they cannot be moved to someone else's balance — not to a friend, a brother or a relative. There is no transfer function in the app, and we do not perform such transfers manually either: otherwise connects would turn into an object of resale, and we do not allow that.

What you can do is pay on someone else's behalf. If you want to help a brother, simply make the purchase and state that the connects should be credited to his account — send support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) the receipt and his profile ID. You can pay from your own card, and the connects will be credited to him straight away.

5.23

As a rule, no. Registration, the profile, filters, likes and viewing photos are free for everyone, and the only genuinely paid action — opening a chat — is almost always paid for by the brother. That is how it works both by our recommendation and by the spirit of the Shariah: the costs of courtship and of maintaining a family fall on the man.

Formally either side can open a chat, so if you do not want to wait for a brother's initiative you are free to pay the connect yourself — but that is your voluntary choice, not a requirement. The overwhelming majority of sisters use Zawji without spending a single rouble.

6. Wali and mahram

How to inform your wali, pass a mahram's contact correctly and talk in the presence of witnesses without breaking the rules.
6.1

Only through the special form in the chat: tap the three dots (⋮) at the top of the chat → "Share mahram contacts". In the form, state your real name, the mahram's name, how he is related to you and his contact. A moderator will first get in touch with that person and verify the relationship, and only after the check does the contact appear in the chat.

Writing a number, nickname or link directly in a message is not allowed — that is a violation and the automatic block will trigger. Through the form you can pass either a phone number or an account (Telegram or WhatsApp). If a contact has already been approved in one of your chats, you can send it straight away in a new one — just choose from the list of already verified ones.

6.2

The wali must necessarily be a Muslim. A father or relative who is not in Islam cannot act as a wali at the nikah. A sister's husband also cannot be a wali — you need to find a closer relative on the paternal side.

If there are no Muslim men on the paternal side, the right of wali passes to an authoritative Muslim in your locality — an imam, for example. If even that is not possible, contact support: we will help with a wali. On disputed Shariah details we try to check with those who have knowledge and point out the correct path.

6.3

A mahram is a close relative through whom the sides communicate in order to avoid seclusion. On the sister's side this must be a man (father, brother, uncle). On the brother's side — a woman (mother, sister, aunt, brother's wife).

That is, a sister cannot be a mahram for another sister, and a man does not qualify as a contact on the groom's side — a woman is needed. A sister's husband cannot be a wali, but his contact may be passed through the form as that of a trusted person. You cannot send your own contact — such a request will be rejected.

6.4

Your wali must know that you are talking here and must not object — that is exactly why a sister takes an oath about it at registration. But he is not obliged to be present in the chat itself: according to the fatwa, that is not a condition of the correspondence.

The wali may drop into the chat from time to time or not at all — that is acceptable. At the same time, moderator-witnesses (a woman and a man) are present in every conversation and all chats are read by real people, so no seclusion takes place.

6.5

Yes, you can. At the "Wali and witnesses" step of registration, simply state that you have no wali. Communication is still possible — moderators are present in every chat as witnesses and all correspondence is read.

If you genuinely have no suitable wali (your relatives are non-Muslims, for example), we can help: find or provide a reliable, vetted brother to become your guardian. This is a separate service — the wali takes on responsibility, looks into the situation of both sides and has the right to decline. The payment is returned in full if the wali does not give his consent or the nikah does not take place. Usually the man's side pays for the service. If you find a wali yourself, there is nothing to pay. For current terms and pricing, contact support.

6.6

The moderator gets in touch with the person you named through Telegram or WhatsApp — usually sending a voice message and asking them to confirm the relationship by voice. If the mahram is a woman, a female moderator speaks with her. Passports and documents are not required: we take confirmation on trust from you and from them. If you wish, we can avoid mentioning that this is an app.

The app states that moderators will contact the mahram within 1–2 days; in some cases the check takes up to 2–3 days — for example, if the mahram does not reply straight away. Requests are handled in order, and the check cannot be sped up.

If you would rather we did not write to your relative, there is an alternative: prove that the number belongs to them — send support a video or screenshots of correspondence with that number, for instance. Then we will not contact them.

6.7

Witnesses are people you can connect to your chat as observers. You can add up to two witnesses, and this is not mandatory: moderators of the platform (a woman and a man) are already present in every conversation as witnesses.

When adding a witness you must state not only the name but also the degree of relationship — a name alone is not enough (for example, "brother", "sister in faith"). Witnesses can be added later, after the conversation has already begun.

6.8

A witness or wali does not need to register. For every woman's profile, a special link of the form app.zawji.app/wali/ is created automatically — through it the chat opens for anyone without signing in or registering. This link is one and the same for the wali and for the witnesses.

You can get it in your own profile (the wali and witnesses section — "Create link" → "Copy") or straight from the chat via the menu (three dots ⋮). Send your relative exactly that link. It opens the most recent chat, but moderators read all correspondence in any case.

If the link does not open or asks for registration, almost always the wrong link was copied. Make sure it is an address of the form app.zawji.app/wali/, recreate it and send it again; it can be opened in a browser (Safari or Chrome) in incognito mode. If that does not help, send support a screenshot of what the witness sees and the text of the link, and we will sort it out.

6.9

No. Data about your wali (whether you have one, the degree of relationship, the link) and the list of witnesses are private — they are not shown to other users in your profile. This information is used only in the context of your chat.

6.10

Yes, but with witnesses and by the rules. A video call is permissible in the presence of a witness from your side or of platform moderators. You may not send a call link (a Zoom link, for example) directly into the chat — it must be agreed with the moderators so that they can take part as well.

Meeting in person is allowed — you can arrange it right in the chat; you should meet in a public place and not alone. Do not send the address or a link to the meeting place yourself: send it to a moderator and we will pass it into the chat. The platform does not yet organise the call or the meeting itself — you arrange it yourselves, observing the condition about witnesses.

6.11

Only after verification and with conditions. If you want to talk in a separate group where your relatives are the witnesses (a brother with his wife, or a mahram sister, for example), pass their contacts through the mahram form and we will verify them. A mandatory condition is a promise from both sides not to move into private messages before the nikah.

Without such agreement, moving to another messenger and exchanging contacts directly are forbidden and lead to a ban — this protects against being drawn into private messages and against abuse.

6.12

Yes. If a sister's wali contacts support and asks us to remove her profile, saying that she is acting without his knowledge, we accommodate that — it is part of respecting the right of guardianship. This is exactly why it is so important that your wali knows about it from the start.

6.13

In that case the nikah may be conducted remotely — that is permissible if the Shariah conditions are met. Witnesses may take part online as well. But the platform does not organise the nikah ceremony itself and does not register the marriage.

It is important to understand: Zawji is not a wedding-planning service and not a marriage registry office. We only help Muslims find one another and come to a religious nikah by a permitted path, while the ceremony itself you perform yourselves — with your wali and witnesses. A religious nikah is a Shariah rite, not a state registration of marriage, and these are different things; for some users the religious nikah is precisely the goal (in a polygamous marriage, for instance, which in many countries cannot be registered officially). The legal side of marriage in your country you handle yourselves.

6.14

Verification of a mahram's contact usually takes up to two days. In rare cases it may drag on — if the mahram does not reply straight away, for example. If the check is taking noticeably longer than usual, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) and we will look into it.

7. Blocks and account recovery

How bans work in Zawji, what they are given for and how to get your access back.
7.1

It is a ban not on a particular account but on the person themselves. If you have been banned on the person, you may not create a new profile — on another email, another Telegram or another device: it will still be considered circumvention of the ban and will be banned too. The service has means of identification by device, IP and profile data, so a new account does not help you "start with a clean slate".

A ban on the person is issued for serious violations: an untruthful profile (treachery), creating a duplicate, passing contacts in order to move into private messages, rudeness and the like. When a duplicate is discovered, both profiles are usually banned. We do not ban in secret — when you are banned, the grounds are presented to you. If you believe the ban is a mistake, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) with your ID.

7.2

The main reasons: passing contacts (a number, @username, Telegram, email) or any links directly in the chat; creating a second account (a duplicate); untruthful information in your profile; trying to move the conversation into private messages or into seclusion (khalwa); rudeness, nationalism and insults directed at the other person. You confirm all of these points with checkboxes at registration and seal them with an oath.

Some violations — explicit contacts and links in the chat — lead to an automatic ban instantly. The rest are reviewed by moderators manually. Links are blocked without exception, even to an Islamic channel, book or video, because a link too can be used to pass on a contact and move the conversation out of the app (there have been such cases).

If you believe the ban is a mistake, write to support — t.me/zawjiapp?direct.

7.3

Passing any personal contacts directly in the chat is forbidden by the agreement and leads to an instant ban — this protects against the conversation being moved into private messages and into seclusion, which is not permissible in Shariah. The rule applies equally to your own number and to the number or username of your wali, mahram, mother or brother: writing them as text in the chat is not allowed.

If it happened out of ignorance, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) and state your ID in the app — as a rule, on a first violation the account is restored with a warning. After that, a wali's or mahram's contact can be passed the correct way — through the special form in the chat (more on this in the wali and mahram section).

7.4

Two cases need to be distinguished here.

If it was a harmless sequence of digits (a date, a year of birth, a sum) or the name of a social network that the automation took for a contact, this is a false positive. The system tries not to react to dates, times, ayahs and "round" sums, but this does not yet work perfectly. A blocked message does not reach the other person. Write to support with your ID and the ban will be lifted manually, usually quickly; after unblocking, refresh the app.

But if the number was deliberately split up and hidden in the text (one or two digits at the beginning and end of different messages, for instance), that is treated as an attempt to get around the rules — and the very fact of such concealment is considered an aggravating violation. A username dictated aloud (via "underscore", "under-space" and so on) is recognised by the system as well. Moderators read chats and see even deleted messages, so deleting a contact after sending it does not help.

7.5

No, a second account (a duplicate) is forbidden — at registration you confirm twice with a checkbox that you will not create a new account, even if you delete or lose this one. The reason is simple: the same profile starts appearing twice in the feed. The ban is issued on the person, so when a duplicate is discovered both accounts are usually banned.

There is no automatic merging of profiles. If two accounts appeared by mistake, do not delete them yourself — write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct): a moderator will review the situation manually, keep one profile (usually the one with more activity) and remove the extra one.

7.6

If you lose access, do not create a new account — it will still be counted as a duplicate and lead to a ban. The correct path is to ask for a transfer: write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct), state your ID in the app and supporting details, and a moderator will move your profile to the right account manually. You will not have to fill in the profile again, and the correspondence will be preserved.

If the profile was "lost" because of several Google accounts, support will bring everything into a single profile and link the correct email and Telegram to it. If your Telegram was deleted or banned, after contacting us launch the app once from the new account — this is needed so that the moderator can "catch" your new ID; you must not go through registration again, otherwise an extra profile will be created. Then close the app completely and open it again — you will land on your former profile and see your old chats.

If the ban turned out to be a mistake during the duplicate check, it will be lifted with an apology — just describe the situation.

7.7

There is no separate appeal form inside the app. The channel for enquiries is stated on the ban screen — write to support: t.me/zawjiapp?direct. State your ID in the app (or the name and age by which you can be found) and attach a screenshot if possible.

A moderator will check the reason for the ban and review your situation. If there was no violation, or it was a false positive from the automation, the account will be restored.

7.8

Timings depend on the case. False positives and simple enquiries are often resolved right there in the conversation; the typical guideline is within a few hours, in shaa Allah. Complex situations requiring investigation can take up to two days.

Bear in mind that moderators are living people, and at night there may be no reply. Enquiries are handled in order, so we ask for your patience.

7.9

The moderator will ask for your ID in the app in order to find the account, and will clarify the circumstances — for example, whether you sent contacts and whether you created a duplicate. In some cases you will be asked to set out your creed (aqidah) in the support chat and to promise not to break the rules.

If there was no violation, the account will be restored. If there was a violation but you sincerely repent, in many cases a second chance is given on your promise to abide by the agreement — but this is an exception, not the rule, and breaking that promise is a sin before the Most High.

It is important to understand: the ban is issued on the person, not on the account. Creating a new account or a second Telegram will not help you get around the ban — the service has means of identification by device, IP and data. A repeated violation leads to a lifetime ban across all Zawji services.

7.10

False automatic bans are lifted free of charge on request to support. If, however, the ban was issued by a moderator for a genuine violation (a duplicate account, for example), it is a ban on the person within Zawji.

In certain cases a paid amnesty is available: only one account is unblocked, and you pay a penalty. Check the amount and conditions with support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct). A repeated violation after such a reinstatement leads to a lifetime ban with no possibility of being unblocked.

7.11

For improper behaviour — rudeness, insults, nationalism and belittling other peoples — moderation first issues a warning and marks the user as an offender. Escalation applies: roughly two warnings are usually equivalent to a ban. We are not in the business of re-educating people — we simply warn, and then ban.

Separately: not every system notification is a sanction. A warning from the AI witness over a borderline phrase has no effect in itself — it only forwards the message to the moderators, and an account is not banned for it.

7.12

When you are banned, your profile is hidden from the general feed, active connections are severed and active chats are closed; your photographs stop being served to other users. Nothing is deleted, though — the profile and the correspondence remain in place.

A ban is reversible: as soon as a moderator lifts it, the profile becomes visible again and the chats and messages come back. One nuance: chats that were force-closed at the moment of the ban are not always reopened automatically. If a chat you need does not appear after being unblocked, tell support and a moderator will help bring it back.

7.13

When filling in your profile, directly under the "About me" field there is a note: "Stating contacts and links is forbidden." In addition, to complete registration you accepted the user agreement, which states explicitly that breaking the rules and providing misleading information leads to a permanent ban — and you confirmed this with checkboxes.

In the chat itself there is also a warning that a moderator is watching the conversation and that any attempt to share contacts or move the conversation out of the app is considered a breach of the agreement.

8. Shariah questions and the fatwa

How the halal path to nikah is arranged in Zawji and which fatwa we rely on.
8.1

Zawji was created to help Muslims come to a permitted nikah — without haram, without fitnah, in accordance with Shariah. We put the format of the app to a fatwa and received an oral answer from the Permanent Committee for Fatwas (اللجنة الدائمة للفتوى) at the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ and from other scholars such as al-Jarbu. The full text of these enquiries is published in our channel @zawjiapp.

Helping Muslims to marry is a good deed for which, in shaa Allah, there is a reward with Allah. We continue to consult students and scholars and are ready to change or remove any feature if people of knowledge point out a violation.

8.2

The source is an oral answer from a shaykh of the Permanent Committee for Fatwas at the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ. We were not permitted to record it, so we convey the answer in text form — it is published in full in our Telegram channel @zawjiapp.

We put the same questions to other well-known scholars as well; as soon as their answers arrive, we will publish them in the channel, in shaa Allah.

8.3

Yes, it is permitted. Moreover, a woman is allowed even to offer herself in marriage to a righteous man — there is a basis for this in the Sunnah. The main thing is that the search proceed by a permitted path, with the knowledge of her guardian and avoiding seclusion.

8.4

Performing the five obligatory prayers (for everyone) and wearing the Shariah hijab (for sisters) are mandatory. We do not register those who do not observe these conditions — with a single exception on hijab: for sisters who have recently accepted Islam or have not covered yet but sincerely intend to (a photo without covering is still not acceptable). As soon as you begin observing this, we will be glad to accept you, in shaa Allah.

8.5

Yes, we look at beliefs and manhaj during moderation. Shariah permits accepting all Muslims, and we accept those who have no kufriyat — beliefs or deeds that take one out of Islam (worshipping graves, supplicating to other than Allah, and so on). Even if a person holds to some misguidance from one point of view or another but remains a Muslim without kufr, they may be admitted.

That said, the platform is oriented towards Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, and we give preference to those who ascribe themselves to the salafi call. The administration also reserves the right to refuse registration without explanation if it deems it necessary — for the safety of users.

If you come across a doubtful profile, send a screenshot to support and we will check it.

8.6

No, we do not advertise anyone and do not raise disputes around specific personalities — these are matters in which we refer people to those who possess knowledge. Our task is to organise a permitted path to nikah and to rely on the fatwa we received.

8.7

Yes, informing your guardian (at minimum a mahram) is necessary, and at registration you confirm this with an oath. A woman always has someone responsible for her, and marriage is a serious matter — conducting it in secret from those close to you is not right.

At the same time, the wali's constant presence in the chat itself is not a condition of the correspondence — according to the fatwa we rely on, it is enough that he knows about the fact of the communication; the role of wali may also be filled by another of her mahrams.

And there is nothing to be shy about: you are doing nothing forbidden — on the contrary, you are doing a good deed by seeking a spouse through a permitted path, rather than in secret one-to-one correspondence that leads to sin. Husbands are not sought in the street, and our platform exists precisely so that this can be done openly and according to Shariah.

8.8

Witnesses are living people, and demanding 24/7 observation from them is unrealistic: in just the same way, a wali or a sister's brother may step away or go to sleep during a family conversation, and that does not turn the conversation into haram. Moderators read the correspondence, and an automatic filter works in parallel.

At any attempt to pass on a personal contact — in digits, letter by letter or as an image — the sending is blocked instantly, regardless of whether a moderator is online, and a report goes to the offender's file. Important: we do not call the AI itself a witness — its role is precisely to block the passing of contacts. The format of a chat with witnesses is permissible according to the fatwa we rely on.

8.9

Seclusion (khalwa) is when an unrelated man and woman, between whom there is no nikah and no mahram relationship, are alone together without witnesses — including alone in private correspondence or on a private call. Islam forbids this: in private, Shaytan pushes even sincere and decent brothers and sisters towards sin, and there are direct indications about this in the Sunnah.

This is exactly why all communication in Zawji is open and in the presence of witnesses: profiles without contacts, a chat with moderator-witnesses (and, if desired, with the wali), a ban on passing personal contacts and on moving to another messenger. Mutual consent of the parties does not justify seclusion. The only permitted way to pass on a means of contact is through a wali or mahram (via the special form in the chat), so that further communication goes through them and not in private.

8.10

Moving into private correspondence is seclusion (khalwa), which is forbidden, and mutual consent changes nothing here: it is precisely in private that Shaytan pushes even a sincere brother and sister towards sin. That is why exchanging personal contacts is not permitted on the platform.

The only permitted way is to pass on the contact of your wali or mahram: then further communication goes through them, and the responsibility lies with them.

8.11

Yes, in the form in which we have arranged it: on mutual interest, the sister is the first to see the brother's photo and, if she approves, opens her own. According to the fatwa this is permitted, and it is best done with one-time viewing on both sides and an oath of non-disclosure before showing — which is exactly what we implemented.

Separate permission from the wali for a photo exchange is not obligatory, but it is desirable that he be aware of it.

8.12

According to the fatwa a video call is permissible — with recording forbidden and protection against screenshots. The presence of the wali is not a strict condition, but there must be witnesses.

8.13

Until the iddah is over, nikah is not possible, so you need to wait for it to end. You may keep the conversation from being closed for good and simply pause until the iddah is over — how to proceed is up to you.

8.14

At the end of registration you swear by Allah that the information about yourself is truthful, that you are registering with the intention of nikah, and that you undertake to abide by the rules. This is how we seal the agreement between you and the platform.

According to the fatwa, such an oath places responsibility for the truthfulness of the profile on you and removes it from the platform, and lying in a profile under that oath becomes the sin of a false oath — take this seriously.

8.15

Yes. The app has a separate "Ask the students a question" section: open your profile (the profile icon) and scroll down. The answers come from students in Madinah, any user may ask, and it is free.

It is important to understand what to ask them about. The students answer only on the fiqh of family and relationships: nikah, mahr, the wali and his powers, witnesses, the conditions of marriage, iddah, divorce, polygamy, the limits of what is permitted in communication before nikah. That is the range of questions the section was created for.

Where to go with everything else:

  • Technical questions and anything about how the app works (payment, bans, your profile, errors) — to the feedback channel: t.me/zawjiapp?direct. The students do not deal with such questions.
  • Questions on other areas of fiqh and religion — to the people of knowledge in your locality. Such enquiries are simply left unanswered by the students, and this is not rudeness: they answer within their specialisation rather than advising on everything.

And one more thing: support itself are not muftis. We answer questions related to the app and to nikah, and even then we check with those who have knowledge where necessary.

9. Technical questions

What to do if the app does not open, the chat freezes or notifications stop arriving, and how to sign in to your account.
9.1

In most cases the cause is internet blocking by your provider (this is especially relevant for Russia and a number of regions), not a failure on our side. Go through the steps:

  1. Open the web version https://app.zawji.app instead of the mini app in Telegram.
  2. Refresh the screen — three dots at the top right → "Reload".
  3. Change your VPN or the country in your VPN, or better still try turning the VPN off completely (mobile operators sometimes throttle the traffic of specific VPNs at the connection level, and then changing the country does not help). Note: the app does not work through a proxy — you need a VPN specifically.
  4. Open app.zawji.app in a different browser (Safari ↔ Chrome) and/or in incognito mode — this clears the cache.
  5. Change your internet source (mobile ↔ Wi-Fi).
  6. Check on another device.

If nothing helped, it is unfortunately network blocking on the provider's side, and the most effective thing here is to try a different internet source, a different VPN and a different country.

Working addresses: the mini app t.me/zawjiapp_bot/app, the web version https://app.zawji.app, support t.me/zawjiapp?direct.

9.2

In the Telegram mini app the three dots are at the top right — tap them and choose "Reload". This is the first thing to do with any freeze, an outdated screen state or profiles that have not loaded.

If a simple refresh does not help, do a hard cache reset: swipe the Telegram app itself (not the mini app) fully away from the app switcher and open it again; if necessary — Telegram → Settings → Data and Storage → Clear Cache. If you are in a browser, do a hard page reload or open app.zawji.app in a different browser or in incognito mode.

9.3

Under no circumstances go through registration again — a second profile will be counted as a duplicate, and accounts are banned automatically for duplicates. You need to sign in the same way you registered.

If you registered on the site and are now signing in through Telegram and the app offers to start over — write to support t.me/zawjiapp?direct with your details (name, age and city from your profile), and we will link your Telegram to the existing account manually — you will land straight in your own profile. An important technical point: linking Telegram works correctly only when entering the mini app from a phone — on desktop Telegram the linking button may be inactive.

If email and password do not work, most often this means you registered through Telegram or Google — for such accounts there simply is no email password, so signing in with a password does not work and the recovery email does not arrive (there is no account with that email in the database). Open the app from the @zawjiapp_bot bot in Telegram, or at app.zawji.app tap "Sign in with Telegram" / "Sign in with Google" — no password is needed.

If that does not help, write to support and state: how you registered (Telegram / Google / email+password), which email you are entering, and also the name and age from your profile — we will find the account and bring everything together.

9.4

Try the following: first refresh the app via the three dots at the top. If that did not help, do a hard reset of the Telegram cache: swipe the Telegram app itself (not the mini app) fully away from the app switcher and open it again, then go into the chat; if necessary — Telegram → Settings → Data and Storage → Clear Cache. If you are using a browser, do a hard page reload or clear the cache.

If the problem persists after all these steps, write to us at t.me/zawjiapp?direct and attach a short video — we will look into it.

9.5

Most often this means the other person deleted or temporarily froze their profile — we do not control such actions, and in that case the chat stops opening. Sisters often come back later, so sometimes it is enough to wait a little.

Sometimes the cause is technical — network interruptions. Refresh the screen (three dots → "Reload"), try the web version app.zawji.app or a different internet source / VPN. If the chat is clearly stuck for no reason, write to support with your ID.

9.6

We have no bots — every profile belongs to a real person who has passed moderation. If no recommendations are being shown to you, first check your search filters (age, region, nationality): settings that are too narrow can greatly reduce the results. Then refresh the screen via three dots → "Reload". If profiles still do not appear, write to support with your ID and we will check.

9.7

Notifications are configured in your profile. Delivery channels: inside the app, in Telegram, web push and on Android. If alerts are not arriving, check that the ones you need are enabled in the settings. The notification language matches the app language you chose in your profile.

Email notifications are currently disabled deliberately — only service emails arrive by mail (receipts and password confirmation/reset, for example). All important alerts about likes, mutual interests and messages arrive inside the app and in Telegram.

9.8

First check the notification settings in your profile — there may be a filter set. Also note that some notifications in Telegram may be old, and you should not go by them — look at the current list right in the app and refresh it (three dots → "Reload"). If after that you are sure the likes exist but are not in the list, send us a short video to support and we will check.

9.9

This reminder arrives if you opened the payment screen but did not complete it within about 15 minutes. It is not sent to people who never started a payment. If you are sure you did not try to pay and the messages still arrive, write to support with your ID and we will check.

9.10

The app language is chosen in your profile — go into your profile settings and select the language you need. If the language switched by itself or the labels are displaying incorrectly, first refresh the screen via the three dots at the top → "Reload".

9.11

The app has built-in message translation. If it does not trigger, or if pressing the translate button selects the text instead, please send us a short video to support — that way we can reproduce the problem and pass it to the developers.

9.12

Try uploading the photo again, having first refreshed the app via three dots → "Reload". If the error repeats, send support a short video (or at least a screenshot) of the upload process — that way we can pin down the cause more precisely and help.

9.13

Some actions (so that your wali can contact you, for example) require a username in Telegram. If you do not have one, set it in your Telegram settings and then let support know — or give a phone number if that is more convenient. After that we will be able to arrange the chat with the wali properly.

9.14

No, this is not a problem — it is how mini apps work in Telegram. The bot's unread badge may remain even after you have read the messages inside the app. It does not affect functionality in any way.

10. Account, privacy, reports

How to manage your profile and account, what we do with your data and how to report a user.
10.1

"Hide" (disable) is a temporary action: your profile stops being shown to others but stays with you, and you can turn it back on at any moment without registering again. Deletion means you are finished with the profile.

To delete it, open your profile and scroll down — there is a "Delete profile" button. The app will ask you for a reason, after which the profile is hidden and nobody can see it any more.

If you have simply found a spouse or want to take a break, we advise hiding your profile rather than deleting it — that way it is easier to come back if your plans change. If deletion does not work for some reason, write to support and give the ID of your profile — we will delete it manually, in shaa Allah.

10.2

After deletion the profile immediately stops being shown to other users. It is not erased straight away, though — you can restore it simply by opening the app again (as long as moderation has not deleted it for good). This is convenient if you change your mind.

Creating a new profile instead of restoring is not allowed — that is considered a duplicate and leads to a ban. If you want to come back, restore your former profile rather than starting a new one.

Please note: deleting your profile does not automatically close your active chats — for the other person the correspondence remains visible and open. This is deliberate, so as not to burn the connect they spent on talking to you. If you want to remove a particular chat, it has to be deleted separately.

10.3

Ordinary profile deletion in the app is deletion with the possibility of restoration: the profile is kept and can be brought back by opening the app again, as long as it has not been deleted for good. If, however, you want your personal data erased completely and irreversibly, write to support and state the email or phone the account is registered to.

We handle such a request manually; the processing time is up to 30 days.

10.4

No. Your profile is your identity in Zawji App. Creating a second profile (including on another email or another Telegram) is considered a duplicate and leads to a ban of both profiles on the person.

If you simply lost access — changed your email, Telegram or Google account — do not create a new profile; write to support: in most cases we restore access and link your account to the existing profile.

If, however, the profile was banned for a violation, that is a ban on the person, and creating a new profile to get around it is not allowed.

10.5

On the profile card, tap the "three dots" (⋮) menu. There you will find both reporting and adding to the blacklist (the blacklist is always available, not only on a mutual like).

A report offers 10 categories: duplicate account, contacts in the description, a photo against the rules, unacceptable content, harassment, a fake profile, fraud, offensive behaviour, suspicious questions and "other"; you can state a reason (up to 1000 characters).

Submitting a report automatically adds that person to your blacklist and closes your active chat with them — this is a protective measure and cannot be turned off. Every report is then reviewed by a moderator; there are no automatic sanctions "by number of reports" — the decision is always made by a human. We do not send separate notifications about the outcome of a review. If your report requires action on your own account (returning a connect, for example), write to support.

10.6

No. We do not give out data on other people's accounts to third parties — neither contacts, nor activity times, nor information about which account a person registered from. The app deliberately blocks the passing of contacts in chat, so we do not disclose such data ourselves either.

If it matters to you to reach a person, the only permitted path is to write to them in the chat inside the app and wait for a reply.

10.7

Not always. Sometimes we see who the enquiry is from and your whole message history, but not in every case — for example, if you write from a different account or Telegram profile. So always state your ID from your profile (and better still your name and age from your profile as well) — that way we will definitely find your account and will not have to ask you to repeat everything.

This information is confidential: it is not available to other users and we do not pass it on to outsiders.

10.8

Using the bot is safe. It works only in a private conversation with you and does not collect group members, even if it is added somewhere.

11. Other

General questions about the service: what it is, platforms, support, the team, languages and more.
11.1

Zawji App is not about dating. Technically it resembles a dating site in some ways, but in its goals and spirit it is far removed from such sites: our only aim is to help people conclude a nikah in a way permitted by Shariah.

11.2

Zawji has two versions, and you can switch freely between them under one account:

It is convenient to add the web version to your phone's home screen (the "Share → Add to Home Screen" menu) — it will then open like an ordinary app. Native apps are planned: first for Android, then for iOS, in shaa Allah.

11.3

The app was created by a team in Madinah, the Basalt Code team, in accordance with consultations with the people of knowledge.

11.4

Zawji's official links:

Send any questions about how the app works to the feedback channel — a moderator will answer, in shaa Allah.

11.5

When contacting support, state the ID from your profile — that is how we find your account. Open the "Profile" section, copy the ID shown there and send it to us.

Please note: the ID from your profile is not your Telegram ID, these are different things. Without it we will not be able to credit connects or look into your problem. If you are reporting a bug, add a screenshot or video as well.

11.6

Support is run by living people, not bots, and they do not work around the clock — moderators rest and sleep, just as you do. In busy periods a reply and a profile review can take up to two days. We ask for your patience.

Please note: automatic checking of messages in chats really does work all the time, but that is automated moderation, not a live operator 24/7.

11.7

There is no separate women's support chat, but delicate and personal questions in the same feedback channel are answered by a female member of staff. Just write — you will get an answer, in shaa Allah.

11.8

The interface is multilingual — the language is changed in the settings. A built-in translator works inside the chat, so profiles and messages in another language are no obstacle: there is no need to rewrite your profile or start a second account because of language.

Support itself replies in Russian and English.

11.9

We understand your caution. There are no bots in the app — these are real people, and every profile goes through manual moderation. Registration is free for both men and women. Real reviews and stories of nikahs that took place can be read in our channel @zawjiapp.

We do not publish exact user numbers; bear in mind that the number of people who have "started the bot" in Telegram is always far larger than the number of genuine profiles. Considerably more men register than women.

11.10

Reviews and stories of nikahs that took place are published in our channel @zawjiapp — always anonymously and only with the author's consent. If, by the mercy of Allah, you reach a nikah through Zawji, we would be very grateful for a review.

11.11

Support does not do manual matchmaking and does not select candidates individually. All introductions happen inside the app: register, fill in your profile and browse candidates. You can find a suitable person, show interest and — for brothers — start a chat yourself, in shaa Allah.

11.12

Yes. The app has users of a wide range of ages, including those over 50 and over 60, and new people arrive every day. Register with confidence and wait — in shaa Allah, a suitable spouse will be found for you.

11.13

There are no built-in audio and video calls yet — the feature is planned, in shaa Allah. If you arrange a call yourselves, remember the Shariah conditions — the presence of witnesses on both sides. Contacts are exchanged in the app only through the mahram form (the "three dots" ⋮ menu at the top of the chat).

11.14

Yes, profile verification is planned, in shaa Allah. We cannot give exact dates yet.

11.15

The advertising you sometimes see in Telegram is shown by Telegram itself, not by the Zawji app. It has nothing to do with us.

11.16

No. Zawji is an original project: the source code, design, interface, texts (including this FAQ), logo, name and the mechanics of the service itself are the intellectual property of the Zawji team (Basalt Code) and are protected by copyright (© Zawji). Copying, reproducing or cloning the app in whole or in part, as well as reverse engineering it without our written permission, is forbidden.

We have put great effort into making the platform halal, safe and convenient. If you would like to cooperate or use our work, write to support (t.me/zawjiapp?direct) and we will discuss it. Unlawful copying we act against.
